VALLILEY, Lawrence ³

   Another name for Lawrence was VALLELY, Laurence.⁴

  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Garshore or Gartshore, Kirkintilloch Dunbartonshire recorded a John Vallely in the age range 45-49 years living with a Margaret Vallely aged 27 years, born outside of Dunbartonshire, and a baby Laurence Vallely aged 4 months, born in Dunbartonshire. A young woman called Sally Valleyley aged 12 years and born outside of Dunbartonshire, also lived in the household. John worked as a labourer and had been born in Ireland.

Laurence was not listed in the family entry for 1851, but Lawrence Valliley was recorded as 20 years of age in the family entry of the 1861 census for Kilmarnock. He worked as a mason's labourer. He had been born in Kirkintilloch Dunbartonshire. ^{3 4}

Lawrence married Peter QUIGLEY, son of Edward QUIGLEY and Rose KELLY.¹ (Peter QUIGLEY was born on 26 May 1816 ⁵ and was christened on 2 Jun 1816 in St Andrew's RC Chapel, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland ⁵.)

  Marriage Notes:

"This Alexr Strachan afterwards designed of Thornton Married Margaret Ross Daughter of Ross of Kilravock and had John Strachan his Son and heir who had a Charter of his Estate Under the Great Seall of King James the 3d. He Married Margaret Daughter of Straiton of Lauriston An Antient family in the County of Kincairden and had by her David his heir and John the Second Son who Carried on the Line of Succession of the House of Thornton."

"Probably Margaret Strachan was his (John Strachan's) first wife; for it would appear that the wife of John Strachan of Thornton in 1503 was Janet Ross to whom is reserved in that year (Playfair's Baronetage) 'a reasonable third part' of the lands of Thornton. He had five sons-David, his successor ; John, who married Margaret, daughter of Sir William Durham of Grange ; William, who founded the family of Strachan of Monboddo, in the parish of Fordoun, Kincardineshire ; Andrew and George."

Lawrence next married Anne Jean QUIGLEY, daughter of Edward QUIGLEY and Rose KELLY.² (Anne Jean QUIGLEY was born on 1 Feb 1831 ⁵ and was christened on 18 Feb 1831 in St Andrew's RC Chapel, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland ⁵.)
