Margarate Lawful daughter to Donald McMurchy and Anny McLean Smith in Tynlone the 17th September"

Margarate married John J. VALLELY, son of James Augustus VALLELY and Jane A. NEW, about 1795 in Glenbucket church, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.¹ (John J. VALLELY was born on 27 May 1916 in Vincennes, Knox, Indiana, USA and died on 10 May 1975 in Falfurrias, Brooks, Texas, USA.)

  Marriage Notes:

John Farquharson and Jean Strachen appear in the minutes of Glenbuchat Kirk Session in May 1796, already married, where an short account is given of their 'antenuptial fornication', reprehensible from the church point of view.

It appears to be the case that they were married when the child was born but it was clear that the conception had taken place before the mariage itself. They are seriously rebuked and disciplined, each appearing before the kirk session thrice then absolved, John on 29 May and Jean on 5 June.

The pages of the document are torn in places, but the gist of the story is a typical one and can be made out. ¹

Margarate next married Robert SMITH, son of Robert SMYTH and Sibby McKENDRICK, on 12 May 1824 in Glenbucket Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.² (Robert SMITH was born 22 March 1870 at 11.00 pm in Dunn's Lane, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland,^{3 4} died 8 February 1946 at 1.00 am in County Hospital, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁵ and was buried on 11 Feb 1946 in St Peter's RC Cemetery, Dalbeth, Glasgow, Scotland ⁵.). The cause of his death was arterio sclerosis, hypostatic pneumonia and chronic myocarditis.
