CADDELL, Richard 1
Another name for Richard was CADLE, Richard.6 General Notes: Richard and Susan emigrated to Canada. The 1891 census of Canada recorded them living in British Columbia. They had six children, four sons and two daughters. Of both Richard and Susan it was recorded that they were 34 years old, had been born in Ireland, as had their parents, and their religion was 'CE'. By occupation Richard was a street labourer. From their children's births it would appear that after leaving Scotland they went to Ontario, Canada, and were there from about 1884 until 1890 or 1891. Their last child, one month old when the census was taken in mid-May 1891, was born in British Columbia. 1 7 Richard married Susan KANE, daughter of Frederick KANE and Susan CALDWELL, on 25 Jun 1880 in 73 Springfield Road, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Susan KANE was born on 4 Apr 1856 in Coleraine, County Derry, Ireland 1 and died on 28 Oct 1942 in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada 5.) Marriage Notes: The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. Gilbert Laurie presided. The witnesses were Thomas Curry, and John Walker. Richard next married John McMILLAN, son of John McMILLAN and Flora McKENDRICK, in Jun 1745.3 4 (John McMILLAN was christened on 21 May 1800 in Killean and Kilchenzie Parish, Argyll, Scotland.) Marriage Notes: "Janet (Duff) married at eighteen, in 1745, Sir William Gordon of Park, who had already identified himself with the Jacobite cause. He was described by an official of the Commissioners of Excise as 'A rebel Collonel, and very actif in distressing the country by levying money, using very violent measures.' Her father alludes to ' the young Knight of Park,' in connection with some fishing disputc in 1733, so he was considerably his wife's senior. She is said to have eloped with him from Rothiemay, leaping from a window for the Purpose...." |
