McCORMICK, Ann 1

  • Born: About 1828, Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland

  General Notes:

Ann was the third eldest child listed in her mother's 1855 death certificate. Her age was noted as 26 years.

In the 1861 census Ann was recorded as 30 years old and her sister Eliza as 32 years. It may have been a mix up by the enumerator, Ann being older than Elizabeth.

1871 census:
In a household at 237 South Wellington Street in Govan parish Glasgow, Ann McCormick was head of a household of three women. She herself was 45 years old and single. She worked as a Cotton Reeler and had been born in Ireland. The second woman was her widowed sister, Elizabeth McMaster. She too had been born in Ireland and was 35 years old. She worked in a tobacco factory. The last woman was a lodger born in Provanhaw (sic), Lanarkshire, called Ellen Hannigan. She was a single woman of 22 years of age who was a cotton mill worker. Two years after this census Ellen Hannigan would marry John McCormick, the nephew of the two women she lived with at this time. 1 2
