McCOLE, Cornelius ¹

  General Notes:

1901 Census:
Cornelius and Annie McCole and their one year old son John were living in Scott Street Baillieston. With them was living Hugh McCole, brother of Cornelius. The two men had been born in Ireland; Hugh was the younger aged 26 years and Cornelius was 31 years of age. Both were coal miners. Annie was 33 years old and had been born in Stevenston Ayrshire. John had been born in Baillieston.

Cornelius married Ann SMITH, daughter of Robert SMYTH and Sibby McKENDRICK, on 26 Nov 1897 in St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (Ann SMITH was born 31 January 1864 at 4.30 pm in Mr F. Wilson's Land, Townhead Street, Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland ^{5 6}.)

  Marriage Notes:

Thomas and Mary Reynolds were witnesses at the marriage of Ann and Cornelius. The couple were married by Dean Terken. ²

Cornelius next married Janet ALLAN.^{3 4} (Janet ALLAN was born about 1880 and died after 14 Aug 1928 ⁷.)

"Leith, John, of Leith Hall

Eldest son of James Leith of New Leslie, Peil Syde, Arnbog, etc. and Margaret Strachan of Glenkindie. Married Janet, daughter of George. 2nd Lord Banff and had five sons. Died in 1527."

"Janet, a posthumous child, born at Inchdrewer 1668, married, contract dated 16 June 1694, to John Leith of Leithhall, and had issue. She died in July 1743.''

"John Leith of Leith-hall, married Janet Ogilvie, daughter of George, second Lord Banff. His third son, George, owned, for a time, Blackhall in Inverurie. From a fourth son, Laurence Leith in New Flinders, John Farley Leith, M.P. for Aberdeen, is descended."
