W. Rattray, widower, of Renfrew, gave notice of Esther's death before the registrar at Paisley on 11 June 1888. 3


Esther married James DONALDSON, son of William DONALDSON and Ann McGRAW, about 1635.1 (James DONALDSON was born about 1835 in Ireland 4 and died 14 April 1888 at 8.25 pm in Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5.). The cause of his death was heart disease over 6 months and congestion of the lungs over 5 days.3

Esther next married William RATTRAY, son of William RATTRAY and Agnes BAIN, on 5 Oct 1875 in 9 Hopetoun Place, Glasgow, Scotland.2 (William RATTRAY was born about 1854 in Glasgow, Scotland and died 23 November 1931 at 5.15 am in 22 Russell Street, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of his death was apoplexy over 1 year and senility over 2 years.3


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was David Menzies, minister of Free Martyrs, Glasgow, and the witnesses David Rattray and Emma Charnley.

The bridegroom was 21 years old and worked as a journeyman flesher. He was a single man who lived at 160 Cumberland Street (South) Glasgow.

Esther Charnley was a flesher saleswoman of 20 years of age. She lived at 158 Cumberland Street and was single.

The marriage was registered on 8 October 1875. 2
