  • Born: About 1759
  • Marriage (1): GEORGE, Thomas
  • Marriage (2): MOORE, Matthew on 3 Dec 1784 in Dalkeith parish, Midlothian, Scotland 1

  General Notes:

Orr is a familiar name in both Scotland and Ireland, especially in the south west of Scotland and the north of Ireland.

During the late 18th century two men named Orr found fame in Ireland.

William Orr of Farranshane, a young farmer with a family, was executed in 1797 by the government for administering an oath to a man, admitting him to the proscribed Society of United Irishmen.

James Orr, of Antrim, became a well known name for the verses he composed on the scene at Donegore Hill in Antrim where the rebels were camped during the course of the 1798 rebellion.

Hannah married Thomas GEORGE, son of John GEORGE and Unknown. (Thomas GEORGE was born about 1755.)

Hannah next married Matthew MOORE, son of John MOOR and Elizabeth CHERRY, on 3 Dec 1784 in Dalkeith parish, Midlothian, Scotland.1 (Matthew MOORE was born on 22 Aug 1818 in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland 2 and was christened on 20 Sep 1818 in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland.)

  Marriage Notes:

The banns of marriage were called in Inveresk with Musselburgh parish on the same date.

In both Dalkeith and Inveresk parishes, in the parish register data about the marriage, references were made in the register about an irregular marriage contracted previously between these two parties in Edinburgh. An irregular marriage was one which did not take place under the auspices of the established church. This may refer to a marriage contracted within the nonconformist Burgher Church in Edinburgh, that was not to the approval of the Church of Scotland minister when a subsequent child of that union was brought for baptism in the Church of Scotland.

Margaret Youll, and her brothers David and James, were baptised in the Burgher dissenting church, so it is possible she and Richard Webster contracted a marriage there. 1 3
