  General Notes:

Mary Harris, Thomas McCormick's aunt, who had been present where the child's birth occurred, gave notice of Thomas's birth before the registrar at Glasgow on 20 June 1857, and made her X mark. Her address was noted as 32 New Street Calton.

The 1861 census confirms Mary's name and her address. She was a boarder there. The head of the household was Sarah Lundy and a family called McMurray also boarded there. Mary worked in a cotton mill and like most of the others in the household had been born in Ireland. Her age was noted as 26 years, making her birth year about 1835. 2 3

Binnie Place where Mary Harris married is near Glasgow Green; it is at right angles to Monteith Row, crosses London Road, leading into Green Street.

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. William Rossborough was the minister. The witnesses were William Burrough and E. Spence.

Alfred Stokes was a soldier in the 29th Regiment. He was a single man of 26 years of age. He lived the Barracks in Glasgow.

Mary Harris made her X mark. She was 24 years of age and lived in the Gallowgate Glasgow. She was unmarried. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 29 August 1862. 6
