According to the 1881 census for Carluke, Elizabeth Quigley was born in Glasgow and was aged 24 when the census was taken. 5


Elizabeth married Patrick QUIGLEY, son of James QUIGLEY and Mary LEITCH, on 24 Sep 1878 in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Patrick QUIGLEY was born about 1858 in Ireland 5 and died between 1 Jun 1906 and 18 Jun 1926 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant priest was Mortimer Cassin, and the witnesses were Joseph Dixon and Mary Ann Dixon.

Patrick Quigley was a single man of 20 years of age. He worked as a collier. His residence was noted as The Law, Carluke.

Elizabeth Whisker was a mill-girl, also unmarried and her age was 23 years. She lived at WhirlyBurn Row Carluke. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Carluke on 25 September 1878, the registrar being John Fraser.



Note: The witnesses were probably Joseph Dixon and his wife Mary Ann Dougan or Doogan, married at Cambusnethan in 1863.

Elizabeth next married Neil HENDERSON, son of Alexander McKENDRICK and Ann McMILLAN, in 1642.3 (Neil HENDERSON was born on 16 Aug 1854 in Killean and Kilchenzie Parish, Argyll, Scotland 8 and died in 1910 9.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Sir William Douglas of Glenbervie, eldest son, succeeded his father as second Baronet. In terms of an arrangement for extricating the estates from debt he married, in 1642, Anne, only daughter and heiress of James Douglas of Stonypath. He died before 1688, leaving issue"
