This was the second child in the family to be called Francis.

Francis John Smith was 9 years old in 1881 when the census for Cambusnethan recorded his family household. He was a scholar and like his brother and sister also recorded, he was born in Shotts parish. ²

Francis married Hugh QUIGLEY, son of John QUIGLEY and Mary DOHERTY, on 10 Sep 1806 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ (Hugh QUIGLEY was born about 1830 in Ireland and died on 23 Mar 1877 in Nitshill, Abbey Landward Parish, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was bronchitis of 1 month's duration.
