The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Thomas Keane, priest at St John's RC Church Barrhead. The witnesses were James McMahon and Mary McLeod.

Henry Smith was a widower, of Meadowhead. He was aged 31 years and worked as a miner. His mother was deceased.

Anne Lyons, who made her X mark, was a single woman of 24 years. She was a flaxdresser and resident at Broadlea Banks. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 28 November 1861 at Neilston, John Gardiner being the signing registrar.
