James was aged 6 years in 1851, according to the census of that year for Carluke, where he lived with his parents and brothers and sisters. He had been born in Ireland.

The 1861 census for Carluke recorded James McConville as 15 years old.

James McConvill, coal miner, gave notice of the death of his 8 month old son James before the registrar at Wishaw in May 1873.

The 1881 census for Cambusnethan recorded James McConville as head of a household living at Torbush. He was a coal miner aged 34 years and had been born in 'Down County Ireland'. 3 4 5 6 7


James married Catherine MARKIE, daughter of James MARKIE and Ann SMITH, on 1 November 1868 in St Athanasius Church, Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Catherine MARKIE was born about 1847 in Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Father Mortimer Cassin and the witnesses were Edward McConvill and Hugh McConvill who made his X mark.

James McConvill was a single man who worked as a coal miner. His age was recorded as 24 years and he resided at Forth in the parish of Carnwath. His mother was deceased.

Catherine Markie was a single woman of 21 years. She lived at Wilsontown in Carnwath parish. No occupation for her was noted.

The marriage was registered on 3 November 1868 at Carluke, John Fraser being the registrar. 2
