  General Notes:

Father James Smith baptised Edward McConville, son of Edward McConville and Isabella Watson, in St Mary's RC Chapel Hamilton, and recorded this baptism in his own hand in the records of the parish. Robert McCurdie and Agnes Quin were the child's sponsors.

Edward was recorded as aged 3 years by the 1851 census for Carluke. He was the youngest of the family then and the only one not to have been born in Ireland. He was born in Carluke.

In 1861 Edward was recorded by the 1861 census for Carluke. He was aged 13 years, according to the census entry.

In 1868 an Edward McConvill was one of the witnesses at the marriage of James McConvill in Carluke.

Edward was the informant of his father's death in 1873. He had not been present where his father's death occurred. 1 3 4 5


Edward married Jane Marshall HASTIE, daughter of Ralph HASTIE and Ann McKAY, on 2 February 1869 in St Mary's RC Chapel, Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Jane Marshall HASTIE was born on 15 September 1842 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland 2 and died in January 1905 in Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa, USA 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Lawrence Cahill. The witnesses were Henry Fitzpatrick and Ann Hastie.

Edward McConville was recorded as an unmarried man of 21 years and 'of Carnwath'. He worked as a coal miner. His mother was recorded as deceased.

Jane Hastie was also unmarried and of Carnwath. She was 24 years old and worked as a domestic servant.

The marriage was registered on 3 February 1869 at Lanark, the recording registrar being John Cassels.
