   Cause of his death was acute nephritis over one and a half months.

   Other names for Daniel were McGONEGAL, Daniel 9 and McGONIGALL, Daniel.5

  General Notes:

In the 1871 census Daniel and Elzabeth McGonigall were living at 63 Clyde St Back Land, Anderston, Glasgow. Daniel, aged 36 years worked as a ship painter; his wife, Eliza McGonigall aged 40 years was, like her husband, born in Ireland. Their three children, John, aged 11 years, Daniel aged 6 years, and Eliza who was 1 year old, also lived in the household, as did two lodgers.

The 1881 census for Barony parish Glasgow Recorded Daniel and Elizabeth McGonigal, aged 45 and 50 years respectively, living at 63 Clyde Street. Daniel was a housepainter and had been born in Ireland, as had his wife. Three children lived with them: John, aged 20 years, Daniel, aged 15 years and Elizabeth aged 11 years. Only John. also a housepainter, had been born in Ireland, the others being born in Glasgow.

The 1891 census recorded Daniel McGonigal, aged 56 years and born in Ireland, with his son, Daniel, aged 25 years, and daughter, Elizabeth, aged 21 years, living at 58 Clyde Street, Anderston, Glasgow. Daniel was a house painter.

Daniel was an army pensioner, according to his death certificate in 1895. He was the widower of Elizabeth McGowan. His age at death was recorded as 57 years and his occupation had been that of journeyman housepainter. 2 4 5 6 10 11

David Moffat, MB CM certified the cause of death.

John McGonigal, son of the deceased, of 53 Clyde Street Glasgow, gave notice of his father's death before John Hamilton, registrar, at Glasgow on 24 April 1895.


Daniel married Elizabeth McGOWAN, daughter of Henry McGOWAN and Mary Jane GRIMES, on 2 June 1858 in Ireland.1 (Elizabeth McGOWAN was born about 1830 in Ireland 5 6 10 and died 6 June 1890 at 10.30 am in 63 Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland 12.). The cause of her death was asthmatic bronchitis over 2 months.
