James married Catherine Gillies STEWART, daughter of Alexander STEWART and Isabella BRODIE, on 30 December 1870 in Middle/New Parish, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.¹ (Catherine Gillies STEWART was born on 10 August 1845 in Rothesay, Bute, Scotland ^{1 2} and died 14 March 1911 at 2.50 pm in 235 (6) Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland ^{2 3 4}.). The cause of her death was cardiac dropsy over 3 months.³
