James Tweedlie, his wife and two children were recorded by the 1881 census for West Greenock living at 5 Hope Street. James was a coppersmith by occupation. His age was recorded as 53 years and his birthplace as Belfast, Ireland.

James Tweedlie died in 1901. His death certificate recorded him as a foreman coppersmith, married to Catherine Gillies Stewart. His recorded age at death was 53 years. His parents were deceased.

When his wife, Catherine Gillies Tweedlie, died in 1911, James Tweedlie's occupation was recorded in the same terms. 2 3 4

I. B. Tweedlie, daughter of the deceased who was present where her father's death occurred, gave notice of the death before the registrar, Ian Grant, at Coatbridge on 11 February 1901. 3


James married Catherine Gillies STEWART, daughter of Alexander STEWART and Isabella BRODIE, on 30 December 1870 in Middle/New Parish, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (Catherine Gillies STEWART was born on 10 August 1845 in Rothesay, Bute, Scotland 1 2 and died 14 March 1911 at 2.50 pm in 235 (6) Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 3 4.). The cause of her death was cardiac dropsy over 3 months.3
