  General Notes:

In the 1851 census, Francis and Euphemia Tweedly were recorded with three of their children, living in Laurieston, a new suburb south of the river Clyde near Gorbals parish. Francis and his wife were both aged 34 years. The three children listed with them were only three out of six born to them by 1851. Their address was recorded as 24 Salisbury Place. Francis was a millwright.

Francis Tweedley (sic) was a widower when he married Annie Caldwell in 1867. 5 6 7


Francis married Euphemia GOWANS on 31 December 1839 in Gorbals, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Euphemia GOWANS was born about 1817 in Edinburgh, Scotland and died before 12 November 1867.)


  Marriage Notes:

The OPR of 8 Dec 1839 in Gorbals parish records the banns, and the marriage took place on 31 December 1839, by Reverend Archibald Nisbett. 8

Francis next married Annie CALDWELL, daughter of James CALDWELL and Jane HUTCHISON, on 12 November 1867 in 12 Stirling Square, Glasgow, Scotland.2 (Annie CALDWELL was born about 1842 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was took place according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was W. Rossborough. The witnesses were James McQueen and Janet McCartney.

Francis Tweedley, a millwright, was a widower recorded as aged 49 years, of 12 Stirling Square, Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.

Annie Caldwell was an unmarried woman of 35 years who worked in the mills. She was of the same address as the bridegroom. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 13 November 1867 in Glasgow, the registrar being Archibald Hood. 2
