The 1851 census for Clarkston in New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, recorded a family of Rice (variation of Rocks) lodging with a family of McElroys at 5 Clark Land Edinburgh Road. Patrick Rice was aged 40 years and worked as a rail labourer. His birth place was Armagh, Ireland.

Catherine Roaks' death certificate of 1872 recorded her as the widow of 'Peter Roaks Road Labourer'. ^{2 3}

(Catherine VALLELY was born about 1811 in County Armagh, Ireland ^{1 2 3 4} and died 27 July 1872 at 6.15 am in Cannonside (?) Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland ³.). The cause of her death was general debility over months.
