  General Notes:

Margaret Russell's birth certificate of 1880 recorded her as the daughter of "Margaret Russell, Furniture Polisher". No father's name was recorded and the birth certificate was marked "illegitimate". Margaret's mother was the informant of her birth before the registrar Andrew Cameron at Newmilns on 7 December 1880.

In February 1901 a daughter, Crichton, was born to Margaret Russell, whose occupation was "French Polisher", at 29 Franklin Street Bridgeton. Only the mother's name was included orginally in her birth certificate, and her mother signed herself "M Russell", as informant of the birth on 11 February 1901. An entry in the Register of Corrected Entries, signed on 13 January 1902 by John Tait Assistant Registrar with a further dated noted of 28 November 1903 by an illegible signatory, states that, as a result of a paternity case, the name of George Tabor Bookmaker should be inserted in the fourth column of the child's birth certificate above the name of the mother. The address noted for George Tabor was 75 Cumberland Street Calton Glasgow. The pursuer of the action was Margaret Russell of 18 Well Street Calton.

The 1901 census, taken on the night of 31 March/1 April, for Bridgeton Glasgow, recorded Margaret Russell aged 44 years as head of a household living at 29 Franklin Street. She was a French polisher by occupation, and had been born in Glasgow. With her were living her daughter Margaret, aged 21 years, recorded as born in Galston Ayrshire, and also a French Polisher by occupation, and a grand-daughter, aged 7 months and born in Glasgow, named "Chrigton Russell".

Margaret Russell was listed as the spouse of James McIver in a 1915 British Army document.

In her death certificate of 1958 Margaret Russell was recorded as "General Dealer Widow of James McIver General Dealer". She was aged 77 years when she died. No father's name was noted in her parents' details. Her mother's name was recorded as "Margaret Russell Furniture Polisher (deceased)". ^{2 3 4 6 7}

S. McIver, Margaret's son, of 787 Clarkston Road Glasgow, notified the registrar at Cambuslang, Robert Gray, of her death on 2 June 1958.

Margaret next married James McIVER, son of William McIVER and Sarah DOCHERTY, on 8 July 1902 in 21 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, Scotland.^{1 2} (James McIVER was born on 15 March 1881 in 36 Gallowgate, Glasgow, Scotland ⁹.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was performed after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Robert K. Monteath, minister of Hutchesontown parish, married the couple. The witnesses were John MacLean, who made his X mark, and Susan Begley.

James McIver was a fruit dealer by occupation. He was unmarried and aged 21 years. His address was noted as 60 Rose Street, South Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.

Margaret Russell was a fish hawker. She too was unmarried and was aged 21 years. Her address was 80 Rose Street, South Glasgow. Her mother was recorded as "Margaret Selanders. Her father was recorded as a labourer, and deceased. (see note below)

The marriage was registered on 9 July 1902 at Glasgow, the registrar being John Brown.

Note: Margaret Russell's parents names were recorded as Thomas Russell and Margaret Selanders in this marriage certificate. Other sources demonstrate conclusively that this was not an accurate statement. ¹
