QUIGLEY, John 1 2
- Born: About 1843, Ireland
- Died: 2 May 1906 at 9.15 am, Herdshill Pit, Newmains, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Cause of his death was cardiac failure.2
Another name for John was QUIGLAY, John.3
General Notes:
John was aged 18 years in 1861 and worked as a coal miner.
In the 1881 census for Cambusnethan parish two brothers were recorded living at 33 Orchard Row, Overton, Lanarkshire. They were Patrick Quigley, aged 45 years, a coal miner, born in Ireland; and John, noted as head, aged 37 years, also born in Ireland and working as a coal miner. They seem to fit the two unmarried brothers in this family. In the same enumerating book, about twenty pages earlier, a Thomas Quigley aged 15 years appears as stepson of the widowed James McCann. This is possibly the son of Jane of this family.
John died in 1906 at the recorded age of 51 years [a very low age for him considering information from other sources]. He was single and had worked as a coal miner. John's usual residence was Orchard Row, Overtown. His parents were deceased. 2 3
Medical Notes:
J. Watson Little MB ChB, who examined the body, certified the cause of death. NOTE:This death also had an entry in the register of Corrected Entries which has not been checked. This suggests it was a sudden death that needed more investigation. This is reinforced by the fact that the death took place at a workplace.
Mary McGuigan, niece of the deceased, of 40 Double Furnace, Rowberryhill, gave notice of her uncle's death before the registrar, Thos. Steele, at Wishaw on 3 May 1906. 2
