  General Notes:

John Skeoch, Margaret Skeoch's father, who was present where the birth occurred, gave notice of her birth before the registrar at Glasgow on 3 November 1876. He recorded also that he was a journeyman blacksmith, and that he and his wife were married on 3 January 1876. In 1878, he did so again at the birth of his second daughter, Marion, whose birth was registered on 10 April 1878.

John Skeoch, widower, who had been present where the death of his wife occurred, gave notice of Margaret's death at Hutchesontown, Glasgow on 13 May 1878.

In the 1881 census John Skeoch was recorded living at 35 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, as a lodger in the household of John Mackay. The dwelling had four windowed rooms. John was a widower. Lodging there too was his brother in law, W. H. Beadwell, also a widower. Both were 28 years of age. 1


John married Margaret QUIGLEY, daughter of John QUIGLEY and Margaret McGARVEY, on 3 January 1876 in 105 Hill Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Margaret QUIGLEY was born about 1855 in Ireland 1 and died 12 May 1878 at 8.00 am in 22 Camden Street, Glasgow, Scotland 1.). The cause of her death was bronchitis and cardiac disease.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the United Presbyterian Church. Walter McKenzie of Frederick Street United Presbyterian Church married the couple. The witnesses were William Beadwell and Ellen Quigley.

John Skeoch was a 23 year old journeyman blacksmith. He was unmarried and gave his address as 41 Cranston Street, Glasgow.

Margaret Quigley was 21 years old and worked as a shirt cutter. Her address was 46 Elderslie Street and she too was single. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 7 January 1876 in the district of Kelvin of the Burgh of Glasgow. 1
