   Other names for Elizabeth were CORBETT, Elizabeth, KENNEDY, Eliza, KENNEDY, Elizabeth, LYNCH, Betsy and TWEEDLEY, Eliza.

  General Notes:

In 1859 it was Eliza who notified the registrar of her son's birth. She did so at Rothesay on 8 November 1859 and made her X mark before John Palmer, registrar. The registrar noted that the mother was 'present' at the birth!

The census of 1861 for Rothesay recorded an entry at 9 Ladeside Street, Rothesay. Elisabeth Tweedley, a widow, aged 36 years, born in Ireland, was noted there, with two daughters and a son. Margret, aged 4 years, was born in Rothesay. John, aged 18 months, was born in Glasgow, and Isabella, aged 12 years, was also born in Glasgow. The dwelling had one windowed room.

Elizabeth was still living when her son John married in 1883. In his marriage certificate her name was recorded as 'Elizabeth Corbett previously Tweedley MS Lynch'.

In 1901 "Elizabeth Lynch" was recorded living at 179 Dalmarnock Road Glasgow with her daughter Margaret Kerr, and Margaret's husband John, by the census of that year. Her granddaughter Margaret Kerr also lived there. Elizabeth was recorded as 76 years of age and born in Ireland.

Eliza Tweedley was noted as deceased in her son John's death certificate of 1939. 4 5 6 7


Elizabeth married Terence QUIGLEY, son of Philip QUIGLEY and Sarah RHINE, on 11 February 1856 in McCallum's Land, Ladeside Street, Rothesay, Bute, Scotland.1 2 (Terence QUIGLEY was born about 1800 and died 31 January 1871 at 3.30 am in 9 Ladeside Street, Rothesay, Bute, Scotland 8.). The cause of his death was old age.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was conducted according to the forms of the Church of Scotland by John G. Scoular, mimister of the Chapel of Ease, Rothesay.

Terence Quigley was a widower, and a labourer by occupation. He was aged 55 years and resided at McCallum's Land, Ladeside Street, Rothesay, where the marriage took place. Both of his parents were deceased.

Elizabeth Lynch was an unmarried woman of 30 years, of High Street, Rothesay. No occupation was recorded for her. Both of her parents were deceased.

Both the bride and groom made their X mark in the register. The witnesses were J. M. Campbell and Peter McLinden.

The marriage was registered on 13 February 1856 at Rothesay, John Palmer being the signing registrar. 2
