The 1861 census for Old Monkland recorded John as 11 years of age.

The 1871 census for Langloan in Coatbridge recorded John McConvil, aged 22 years, as the eldest son in a family of four sons living with their widowed mother at Back Row, Smellie's Land. John was a collier and had been born in the parish of Old Monkland, Lanarkshire. 1


John married Elizabeth LUNDY, daughter of John LUNDY and Sarah DAVIDSON, on 21 February 1873 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Elizabeth LUNDY was born about 1853.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was John Van der Voort. The witnesses were Rodger Price, who made his X mark, and Elizabeth Forley.

John McConville, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 23 years. He worked as a coal miner and lived at Brown's Square, Langloan, Coatbridge. His father Patrick was dead.

Elizabeth Lundie was a brickyard worker aged 19 years. She was unmarried and lived at Buchanan Street Coatbridge.

The marriage was registered at Coatbridge on 22 February 1873, James Mitchell being the signing registrar.
