Anne McMahon Goldie applied for poor law relief on 16 September 1879, her residence being the night asylum. her place of birth was recorded as 61 Gallowgate Glasgow and her age as 24 years. She was Roman Catholic and worked as a winder. She had had an 'abortion' on 13th September, during a time when her husband had deserted her. Dr McEwan was the doctor. 4


Ann married Patrick GOLDIE, son of James GOLDIE and Ann CURTIS, on 3 September 1875 in St Alphonsus RC Chapel, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Patrick GOLDIE was born about 1850 1 and died 15 May 1904 at 1.10 am in Barnhill Poorhouse, Springburn, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was bronchitis.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after Banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Jeremiah S. Buckley and the witnesses were Thomas Thornton and Mary Murray, both of whom made their X mark.

Patrick Gouldie was a slater's labourer residing at 29 High Street Glasgow. He was a bachelor and recorded as aged 24 years. His father was deceased.

Ann McMahon, who made her X mark, was of the same address as the groom. She too was single and was recorded as 19 years old. She worked as a yarn winder.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 7 September 1875.


In the poor law relief application of 1879 James Goldie and Anne McMahon were recorded as having been married on 3 September 1875 by Father Brockley, in St Alphonsus Chapel. 1 4
