1. QUIGLEY, Constantine

McLUSKEY, Sarah 1

  • Born: About 1823, Ireland
  • Marriage (1): QUIGLEY, Constantine on 10 September 1858 in Roman Catholic Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1
  • Died: 27 July 1882 at 8.40 am, Glasgow District Asylum, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Cause of her death was carcinoma for 1 to 2 years.

Another name for Sarah was QUIGLEY, Sarah.2

  General Notes:

Sarah's age was recorded as 35 years in her marriage certificate, making her year of birth about 1823.

In 1861 Constantine, Sarah and John Quigly were recorded by the 1861 census for Hamilton living at 28 Leechlee Street. Sarah's age was recorded as 50 years and she had been born in Ireland.

Sarah Quigley's death certificate recorded her as married to Con Qugley, mason's labourer. The information came from the asylum clerk and Con Quigley is elsewhere recorded as a good deal older than Sarah so she may in fact have been a widow, or it may have been not known either way. Her usual residence was 28 Windmill Street, Motherwell and her age was noted as 73 years, rather high compared with information from other sources. Both of her parents were dead.

  Medical Notes:

A. Campbell Clarke MB Edin. certified the cause of death.

James McCulloch, asylum Clerk, notified the registrar, William McNab, of Sarah's death on 28 July 1882 at Bothwell.

Sarah married Constantine QUIGLEY, son of James QUIGLEY and Ann O'HARA, on 10 September 1858 in Roman Catholic Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Constantine QUIGLEY was born possibly about 1805 in Ireland 3 4 and died after 3 April 1881 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

The couple were married by Fr Michael Condon the Roman Catholic curate in Hamilton, and the witnesses were John Reilly and Margaret McLuskey. Both Constantine and Sarah made their X mark when signing the register.

The groom, Constantine Quigley was recorded as aged 40 years when he married for the second time, although this conflicts with the age given in other situations. He was a 'widower', and worked as a plasterer's labourer. He resided at 98 Muir Street, Hamilton. Both his parents were dead.

The bride, Sarah McLuskey, was 35 years old and resided at 22 Main Street, Hamilton. She had not been married before, and both her parents were still alive.
