In the birth record of his daughter Jean in 1840 Robert was recorded as a shoemaker in Strathdon.

Robert Murdoch was recorded by the 1851 census for Strathdon parish aged 41 years. He had been born in Glenbucket, Aberdeenshire.
The family of of two parents and three children lived at Heugh Head, along with Robert's brother, James, and a house servant, Mary Wattie.
Robert was a crofter of 4 acres and a Shoemaker. He employed one man. 4 5


Robert married Isobel BRODIE, daughter of William BRODIE Land Steward to Lord Fife and Mary REID, on 31 January 1846 in Glenbucket Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (Isobel BRODIE was baptised on 20 November 1821 in Glenbucket Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1.)


Robert had a relationship with Jean CORDINER in Burns. (Jean CORDINER in Burns was born about 1813 5 and died 24 November 1894 at 0.15 am in Alford parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 5.). The cause of her death was senile decay.
