   Cause of her death was senile decay.3

   Other names for Sarah were MACAFFERTY, Sarah,2 McAFFERTY, Sarah 4 and QUIGLY, Sarah.5

  General Notes:

In her daughter Mary's 1855 birth certificate, Sarah Macafferty was recorded as aged 20 years. She had been born in County Derry Ireland. Mary was her first child.

Sarah died in 1922. Her death certificate recorded her as 'widow of Charles McAfferty mason'. Her recorded age at death was 86 years. Both of her parents were then deceased. Her mother's surnames were noted as 'Mary Quigley MS Tweedley'. 2 3

The cause of Sarah's death was certified by John G. McColl LRCP.

The occupier, Elizabeth M Brith(?), who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of Sarah's death before the registrar, A. L. Colvin, at Glasgow on 20 March 1922. 3


Sarah married Charles McCAFFERTY, son of James McCAFFERTY and Helen GALLAGHER, on 25 April 1855 in Lennoxtown Campsie, Stirlingshire, Scotland.1 (Charles McCAFFERTY was born about 1827 in County Donegal, Ireland 2 and died before 18 March 1922 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage after banns was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was John Gillon, Catholic clergyman at Lennoxtown. The witnesses were John Quigley and Condy Gallagher.

Charles McAfferty (sic), of Printer's Row, Balfron, was aged 28 years. This was his second marriage and he had one child. He had been born in Ireland.

Sarah Quigley was aged 20 years. No birth place and no 'present' or 'usual' address was recorded on the certificate. Nor was her birthplace recorded. No maiden surname was noted for her mother, only 'Mary Quiggley'.

The marriage was registered at Campsie on 27 April 1855, William Gilchrist being the signing registrar. 6
