A child aged 5 years named Ann Jane Lynas is recorded by the 1861 census living with her father John and and uncle and aunt, as well as her brother Bernard, sister Mary and brother John, at 94 Gallowgate in Glasgow.

"APPLICATION FOR PARISH RELIEF
Ann Lynas Duffy applied for parish relief at 11.00 am on September 1 1891. Her place of residence was given as the Night Asylum. She was claiming desertion.

Ann was born in Saltmarket Glasgow. She was a Roman Catholic, now aged 30, and was a machinist by occupation. She had 2 daughters dependant on her: Ann aged 6 and Mary Ann aged 1 year and 8 months.

Her husband Thomas, a labourer, resided with his mother at 16 St Ninian's Street 1 up.

A reference was given to see a previous application 2.77.67 followed by the ass inspector's signature M. McNiven.

For particulars of settlement the entry refers the reader 'to husband'." 2 3


Ann married Thomas DUFFY, son of William D. DUFFY and Mary Ann HILDIGE, on 26 September 1884 in St John's RC Chapel, Portugal Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Thomas DUFFY was born about 1854.)


  Marriage Notes:

Thomas Duffy, who made his X mark, was aged 30 years and resident at 19 King Street, in the City of Glasgow. His parents were both alive.

Annie Lynas was of the same address and aged 26 years. Both of her parents were deceased.

John Murphy was the Roman Catholic priest who married the couple. The witnesses were William Campbell and Mary McNulty, who made her X mark.

The marriage was registered on 6 October 1884 at Glasgow, James Roberts being the signing registrar.
