  General Notes:

The 1841 census for Garshore or Gartshore, Kirkintilloch Dunbartonshire recorded a John Vallely in the age range 45-49 years living with a Margaret Vallely aged 27 years, born outside of Dunbartonshire, and a baby Laurence Vallely aged 4 months, born in Dunbartonshire. A young woman called Sally Vallelyly aged 12 years and born outside of Dunbartonshire, also lived in the household. John worked as a labourer and had been born in Ireland.

John Vallily was 45 years of age when he was recorded by the 1851 census for Kilmarnock living at Thompson's Land as head of the household that consisted of himself, his wife, and his two sons. He was a shoemaker and had been born in Ireland. two young sons, Edward and Francis, lived with John and his wife Margaret.

In 1861 the census recorded John Valliley and his family living at 50 Fore Street Kilmarnock. With him lived his wife Margaret, his five children, and a visitor called Catherine Logan, aged 11 years. John worked as a mason's labourer. He was recorded as 50 years old and born in Ireland.

John Vallely's death certificate of 1884 is extremely difficult to decipher through backward slanting handwriting and faded ink, and the information here should be checked if any doubt arises. In his death certificate he was recorded as a railway surface worker. He was the widower of (no entry)_____ and married to Margaret Wilson. His recorded age at death was 80 years. The names of his parents were not recorded.

In 1897 John's wife Margaret Wilson died. She was recorded in her death certificate as 'widow of John Vallely railway surfaceman'.

In the 1912 death certificate of his son Edward, John Vallely was recorded as a 'railway labourer deceased'. ^{2 4 5 8 10 12 13}

William Allan, John's son in law, gave notice of the death before the registrar at Kilmarnock. ¹²

John married Margaret ADAMS on 7 June 1840 in St Mary's RC Parish, Stirling, Scotland.¹ (Margaret ADAMS was born about 1812 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland ⁴ and died before 28 January 1884 ¹².)

  Marriage Notes:

The Old Parish Register records a date, probably banns, of 6 June 1840, at Slamannan. ¹⁴

John next married Margaret WILSON, daughter of John WILSON and Margaret FRANCE. (Margaret WILSON was born about 1819 ¹³ and died 13 November 1897 at 11.00 pm in 17 New Street, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland ^{12 13}.). The cause of her death was catarrhal pneumonia.
