  General Notes:

The 1851 census for Carluke in Lanarkshire recorded Francis Queen aged 16 years living with his family at Hunterfield. He had been born in Ireland and was now working as a miner of ironstone.

The 1861 census for Cambusnethan Lanarkshire reccorded Francis Queen as head of a household consisting of himself, his wife, their two children and a boarder, Daniel Ferguson - an unmarried man of 18 years, born in Lamington Lanarkshire, and working as a coal miner. Francis was recorded as 25 years of age and of Irish birth. He worked as a coal miner.

Francis Quinn died in 1879. His death certificate recorded him as married to Rosannah Vallaly. His age was recorded as 43 years.

When his wife died in 1909 her death certificate recorded her as the widow of Francis Quinn, coal miner. 4 7 8 9

James Queen the deceased's son, who was present where the death occurred, gave notice of his father's death before William Pollock, registrar, at Hamilton on 11 August 1879. 4


Francis married Rose Ann VALLELY, daughter of Edward VALLELY and Mary MONAGHAN, on 2 February 1858 in Catholic Church, Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 3 (Rose Ann VALLELY was born about 1834 in Ireland 5 8 and died 21 December 1909 at 3.50 pm in 151 Rottenrow, Glasgow, Scotland 8.). The cause of her death was bronchitis and syncope.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was John Black, Catholic priest of Lanark. The witnesses were James Quin, who made his X mark, and Mary Kennedy.

Francis Quinn was a single man of 21 years residing at Waterloo, Cambusnethan parish. He was a coal miner.

Rosan Vallaly of Cambusnethan Kirk was a house servant and 22 years of age. She too was single.

The marriage was registered at Lanark on 5 February 1858, John Gray being the signing registrar. 3 6
