   Other names for Eliza were MASTERSON, Eliza, McCORMICK, Elizabeth ¹ and McMASTER, Elizabeth.

  General Notes:

Elizabeth was the youngest of eight children listed in her mother's 1855 death certificate. Her age was noted as 17 years.

In the 1861 census Ann was recorded as 30 years old and her sister Eliza as 32, whereas 22 years would have been more like it. It may have been a mix up by the enumerator, Ann being older than Elizabeth. And generally the family members were rather confused about their exact age.

In 1882 Eliza's death certificate recorded her as the widow of William Masterson a tobacco spinner. She was 41 years old and her parents were deceased. ¹

Sarah McConnachie, sister of the deceased woman, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice before the registrar on 12 April 1882 and made her X mark.

Eliza married William MASTERSON, son of William MASTERSON and Alice McGOVERN, on 16 July 1863 in St John's RC Chapel, Portugal Street, Glasgow, Scotland. (William MASTERSON was born about 1835 and died between 1863 and 1871.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Fr John Kerr, one of the clergymen of St John's Catholic Church, Portugal Street, Glasgow. The witnesses were Stephen Stewart and Bridget Cary or Cory who made her X mark.

William Masterson, who made his X mark, was an apprentice tobacco spinner. He was a single man of 21 years of age. He lived at 9 Wellington Lane. His father was deceased.

Eliza McCormick also made her X mark. She was 21 years of age and lived at the 15 Commercial Road, Glasgow. She was unmarried and worked as a cotton powerloom worker. Both of her parents were deceased by then, although the certificate records only her father as being deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 27 July 1863.
