Esther Charnley's death certificate recorded her as 'married to William Rattray Fish Dealer'. Her age at death was 32 years. Her father was deceased. Her usual residence was noted merely as 'Renfrew'. ²

W. Rattray, widower, of Renfrew, gave notice of Esther's death before the registrar at Paisley on 11 June 1888. ²

Esther married William RATTRAY, son of William RATTRAY and Agnes BAIN, on 5 October 1875 in 9 Hopetoun Place, Glasgow, Scotland.¹ (William RATTRAY was born about 1854 in Glasgow, Scotland and died 23 November 1931 at 5.15 am in 22 Russell Street, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland ³.). The cause of his death was apoplexy over 1 year and senility over 2 years.²

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was David Menzies, minister of Free Martyrs, Glasgow, and the witnesses David Rattray and Emma Charnley.

The bridegroom was 21 years old and worked as a journeyman flesher. He was a single man who lived at 160 Cumberland Street (South) Glasgow.

Esther Charnley was a flesher saleswoman of 20 years of age. She lived at 158 Cumberland Street and was single.

The marriage was registered on 8 October 1875. ¹
