1841 Census:
The 1841 census recorded William as a blacksmith. The family lived in Perth.

Census of 1861
The census of 1861 recorded him as an engine fitter. He and his family were living at 94 Glebe Street in Barony parish Glasgow. His wife was a white worker.

Census of 1871
William was recorded again as an engine fitter, but his wife was recorded as a butcher. they were still living at 94 Glebe Street Glasgow. David, Jane, William and Susan were recorded living at home. David was also a 'bootcher'. Jane was a book folder. William was an iron moulder. James was a message boy.

The 1875 marriage certificate of William Rattray, son of this William Rattray, recorded his father as a journeyman engine fitter.

William was recorded as a coal merchant in 1877.

When his son, also William Rattray, died in 1931, William was recorded in his death certificate as and engine fitter. He was deceased by then. 1 2


William married Agnes BAIN. (Agnes BAIN was born about 1819-1820 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland and died on 14 March 1885 in 22 Florence Street, Glasgow, Scotland 3.)
