Elizabeth and her husband, who was a coal miner, were both born in Renfrewshire but moved first to Fife with their family and later to Canada. Between 1912 and 1920 the couple, with their two youngest children, moved to Clinton, Indiana, USA, where Hugh worked as a coal miner. 3
