In 1859 Francis was the informant of his father's death. He made his X mark.

A 'Frank McConnell' was recorded in the New Monkland census of 1871 living at Chapel Street Airdrie with the Reid family. He was a coal miner, aged 30 years, and had been born in Airdrie.

The 1881 census for New Monkland recorded Francis, his wife and children, living at 19 Wellwynd Airdrie. Francis had been born in Airdrie, as had all his family in this entry, and was recorded as 40 years old. He worked as a collier.

In 1895 Francis died. In his death certificate he was recorded as Francis McConville aged 45 years coal miner married to Jane Reid. His parents were both dead. 4

  Medical Notes:

Thomas P. Gemmell MB CM certified the cause of death.

Jane Campbell, of 55 George Street Paisley, the deceased's daughter, gave notice of her father's death before the registrar at Airdrie George Andrew on 17 July 1895.

Francis married Jane REID, daughter of Edward REID and Marion NEILSON, on 3 June 1871 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Jane REID was born about 1839 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 2 and died after 15 June 1895.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. James McIntosh was the celebrant. The witnesses were Patrick McConville, who made his X mark, and Margaret Rice who made her X mark.

Francis McConville, of Broomknoll Street, Airdrie, was an unmarried man of 28 years. He worked as a coal miner. In signing he made his X mark. Both of his parents were deceased.

Jane Reid of 56 Chapel Street Airdrie was a steamloom weaver and unmarried. Her age was 28 years. Her father was deceased. Jane made her X mark.

The marriage was registered on 6 June 1871 at Airdrie, Wm. Whyte being the signing registrar.

Note: The two witnesses mentioned may be Patrick McConville and Margaret BRYCE, recently married in Airdrie. The surname of the female witness may have been wrongly heard, and since both the bride and groom and the pair of witnesses made their X marks, the mistake would not necessarily picked up. 1
