  General Notes:

James and his family were recorded by the 1861 census for the parish of Kilmaurs. James was the eldest child of the four children recorded. He was aged 8 years and a scholar. He had been born in Kilmarnock parish.

In 1869 James informed the registrar of the death of Catherine Quigley aged eight and a half months, recorded as his sister. (see Catherine's note)

In 1878 James Quigley gave notice of his daughter Margaret's birth before the registrar, James Gregory, in Kilmarnock on 8 April. Margaret had been born five days earlier. James Quigley's occupation was that of stone mason.

James resided at 28 Bentinck Street, Kilmarnock, according to the 1891 census. He was employed as a mason. He was recorded as 37 years old and was born in Kilmarnock. His wife and four sons lived with him there. Their house had one windowed room.

James Quigley was the informant of the death of James Lyon, his father in law, in 1906 at Kilmarnock.

When James died in 1914, he was recorded in the death certificate as 'James Quigley stonemason journeyman married to Margaret Lyons' and his age was noted as 57 years. Both of his parents were then dead.

In 1920 when his daughter Agnes married, James was already deceased. His occupation was recorded then as mason. 1 2 3 4

John Robortson (sic) MB CM certified the cause of death.

Edward Quigley, the deceased's son who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, Matthew Richmond, at Kilmarnock on 17 August 1914.


James married Margaret LYONS, daughter of James LYONS and Margaret McCREATH, on 8 February 1877 in St Joseph's RC Chapel, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. (Margaret LYONS was born 9 June 1855 at 11.30 pm in Stewart Street, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland 1 5 and died in 1939.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was P. F. Forbes. The witnesses were Michael Sheridan and Catherine Lyons.

James Quigley was an unmarried man of 24 years. He was a stonemason and resided at 25 Fore Street Kilmarnock. His father was deceased.

Marget Lyons (sic) was a mill worker aged 22 years. She was single and of Shaw Street Kilmarnock.

The marriage was registered on 12 February 1877 at Kilmarnock, James S. Gregory being the signing registrar.
