  General Notes:

In his daughter Margaret's birth certificate of 1855, James Lyons' occupation was recorded as mason and his age as 27 years. His birthplace was Ireland.

James Lyons was a stone mason according to the marriage certificate of his daughter Marget (sic) in 1877.

His son James died in 1896. In his death certificate James Lyons was recorded as a journeyman stone mason.

The 1901 census for Kilmarnock found James Lyons living at 7 Richardland Road. His age was recorded as 75 years and he was the head of the household. It recorded him as married and his occupation as a 'retired stonemason'. His birthplace was Ireland. With him was living his grandson James Lyons aged 17 years and born in Kilmarnock, an apprentice stonemason.

James' wife died in December 1901. In her death certificate he was described as a journeyman stone mason. His son Edward was the informant of her death.

James Lyon (sic) died in 1906. In his death certificate he was recorded as a stone mason (journeyman), widower of Maggie McCreath, aged 69 years. His parents were deceased. No information was entered about the mother of James Lyon. 2 4 6 7 8

John Robertson MB certified the cause of death.

James Quigley, son in law of the deceased, gave notice of his death before the registrar. William Osborne, at Kilmarnock on 22 January 1906.


James married Margaret McCREATH, daughter of John McCREATH and Unknown, on 8 April 1849 in St Joseph's RC Chapel, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret McCREATH was born about 1829 in Kilmarnock Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland 1 2 and died 11 December 1901 at 3.30 pm in 7 Richardland Road, Kilmarnock, Scotland 3 9.). The cause of her death was chronic nephritis.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage between James and Margaret was solemnised by Father William Casey. The witnesses' names were indecipherable.

The couple married in 1848 at Kilmarnock according to the birth certificate of their daughter Margaret in 1855. 1 2
