  General Notes:

In the 1851 census Jean was recorded as the wife of James Quigly, a master shoemaker. He was aged 56 years and she was 36 years old. They were born in Ireland. A man called Andrew McNeelly lodged with them.

In 1861 Jean Quigley was recorded with her husband and grandson at 8 Broomknoll Street Airdrie. Her age was noted as 36 years and her birthplace as Ireland.

Jean was aged 58 years, according to her death certificate, and was already a widow. Jean's husband had been a shoemaker, and had been married before. No parental information was given on that certificate. Also, the informant of Jean's death is recorded as an 'inmate' which suggests she was in an institution. 4 5

Jean's age remained at 36 between 1851 and 1861!

No medical person was in attendance.

Thomas Jelly 'inmate' made his X mark in notifying the registrar William Whyte at Airdrie on January 30 1877 of Jean's death. 6


Jean married James QUIGLEY, son of Joseph QUIGLEY and Isabella CAMPBELL, in September 1846 in New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (James QUIGLEY was born about 1790 in Ireland 7 and died 9 January 1875 at 1.00 pm in 8 Broomknoll Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8.). The cause of his death was old age and debility.
