The 1881 census for Moffat, Dumfriesshire, recorded an Andrew Quigley living in the household of his uncle James Quigley, with his uncle's wife, Agnes, and their five children, at Craigieburn Woodhead. Andrew was recorded as 13 years of age and born in Dryfsdale (sic) parish Dumfriesshire. Like most of his cousins there he was a scholar. ²
