Thomas married Helen NISBET, daughter of Thomas NISBET (DNA Linked) and Helen GOVENLOCK (DNA Linked), on 18 December 1817 in Edinburgh, Scotland.¹ (Helen NISBET was born about 1798 in Innerleithen parish, Peeblesshire, Scotland, died on 7 May 1878 in Durham, Ontario, Canada ⁵ and was buried in 1878 in Bowmanville, Durham Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada ³.)

The Old Parish Register for Peebles recorded a regularisation of this marriage on 25 January 1818 as follows:

"Thomas Brodie son of John Brodie in Peebles and Helen Nisbet daughter of Thomas Nisbet, grieve to Mr Laidlaw in the farm of Horsbrugh Castle, compeared this day before the session and produced marriage lines dated Edinburgh 18 December 1817 and signed Robert Crawford minister. They acknowledge themselves married, were rebuked for irregularity, and exhorted, and their marriage was ordered to be recorded" ¹
