"He (Alexander Grant) was used by Ludovick Grant to convince the Grants of Glenmoriston and Glen Urquhart to surrender
themselves after Culloden. Then betrayed along with these men after they had surrendered themselves to their
Chief at Balmaccan on the 4th of May 1746. Sent by ship to Tilbury docks near London, he died of fever on
the 29th of July 1746 whilst trying to clear his name under the heavy charge of High Treason."

Alexander married Margaret CHISHOLM, daughter of John CHISHOLM 20th of that Ilk, 'the red Chisholm' and Jean MACKENZIE.1 (Margaret CHISHOLM was baptised on 21 April 1691 in Invercannich, Kilmorack, Invernesshire, Scotland 3 4 and died by 19 October 1713 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander Grant of Sheuglie, who, on 12th March 1700, is designed eldest lawful son and representative of the deceased James Grant of Sheuglie. On 19th [ .... text unclear] he was served heir to his father. On 27th July 1713 he obtained a charter of adjudication of the lands of Inverchannish, in Inverness. He disponed Lochletter to Lewis Grant of Auchterblair in 1724. For taking part in the Rebellion of 1745, he, with his eldest son, was for a time imprisoned in Tilbury Fort, from which they petitioned the Duke of Newcastle. Alexander Grant died there, and was then about seventy years old. He was twice married, first, to Margaret, daughter of John Chisholm of Comar and Strathglass, by whom he had issue .... He was an accomplished musician on the violin and pipes, and composed many well-known airs."

Alexander next married Isabel GRANT, daughter of John GRANT 6th of Glenmoriston 'Iain-a-Chraggain', Jacobite 1715 and Janet CAMERON, 19 October 1713(contract).1 (Isabel GRANT was born about 1700.)

"Alexander Grant of Sheuglie .... married .... secondly, (contract dated 19th October 1713), to Isabel, eldest daughter of John Grant of Glenmoriston, and had issue thirteen sons and six daughters."
