  General Notes:

"John Grant of Gellovie, who appears to have obtained the lands of Gellovie from his brother. He was a Commissioner of Supply for the county of Elgin and Forres in 1774... John Grant died at Easter Elchies on 28th June 1780. He left issue."

It was probably this "John Grant of Galvie" who witnessed the baptism at Mortlach in 1861 of William, son of James Gordon and Margaret Sime.

The Testament dative and Inventary of certain moveables Debts and Sums of money which pertained and were resting to the deceast John Grant of Gellovie the time of his death, which happened in the month of June one thousand seven hundred and Eighty years, made and given up by Mrs. Elizabeth Sime Relict and Executrix Dative qua, relict Decerned to the said Defunct by the Commissary of Murray upon the ffifth day of June one thousand seven hundred and Eighty one years.

Inventary

The said Executrix gave up and Declared That the Defunct had in his possession pertaining to him the time of his death, aforesaid, certain Household furniture Labouring Utensils Corns cattle and other moveable Effects, which being sold by publick roup, did amount to Four hundred and Thirty four pound three shillings and Eight pence halfpenny Sterling conform to the Roup Role signed and attested by Lieutenant James Green in Innermonie Judge, James Mitchel in Elgin Auctioneer, and Daniel Cruikshanks in Archiestown Clerk at said (said) roup. Item that there was due and resting to the said Defunct the time of his death, by Archibald Duff Sherriff Clerk of Elgin & Lieutenant James

James Leslie Younger of Kininvie Conllie and Seallie The Sum of Forty pounds Sterling conform to their joint obligation to him dated the thirteenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy Eight years.

Summa Inventary is Four hundred and seventy eight pound three Shillings and Eight pence halfpenny Sterling -

Mr Ludovick Grant Junior writer in Edinr Commissary of Murray and William Grant of Grantsgreen Esquire his Depute by these presents Ratify Approve and Confirm this present Testament Dative and Inventary above written And Give the Intromission the Sums of money above mentioned therein contained to the said Mrs Elizabeth Sime Executrix aforesaid With full powers to her to meddle and intromite therewith and if need be, to call charge and pursue therefor as accords Because Patrick Gordon Younger of Aberlour and James McGrigor at Pittyvaich have become bound & obliged conjunctly and severally as Cautioners & Surety acted in the Commissary Court Books of Murray for and with the said Executrix That the Sums of money foresaid given up in Inventary shall be made ffurthcoming to all persons having interest therein as Law will conform to an obligation to that effect subscribed by them upon the twenty second day of June Current. Reserving just comply (?) and reckoning to be made by the said Executrix of her Intromission as accords Given at Elgin the twenty third day of June one thousand seven hundred and Eighty one years

John married Elizabeth SIME. (Elizabeth SIME was born about 1728 and died on 18 April 1812 in Keith parish, Banffshire, Scotland 1 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

"He married Elizabeth Lime (?), said to be a niece of Lord Elchies, who survived him, dying at Keith on 18th April 1812, in the 87th year of her age." 1
