The cause of his death was murder. Marriage Notes: "John Grant of Carron: As eldest son and apparent of Carron, he joined his father in another contract entered into by the latter with Patrick Grant of Ballindalloch, on 20th May 1623 respecting their marches. He obtained on 3d July 1625, from the Bishop of Moray, a precept of clare constat as heir to his father Patrick, in Carron, and on 29th July 1626 was infeft in the lands. He purchased, on 28th June and 4th July 1627, from John Earl of Rothes, the mains and mill of Rothes for £10,180 Scots, and he and his heirs were constituted constables and heritable keepers of the tower, fortalice, and castle of Rothes. He was slain in August or September 1628 by John Grant of Ballindalloch. He married Margaret Sinclair, who survived him." Margaret next married Hugh ROSE 13th of Kilravock, Sheriff of Inverness, son of Hugh ROSE 12th of Kilravock and Magdalen FRASER, about 1640.1 (Hugh ROSE 13th of Kilravock, Sheriff of Inverness was born about 1619 1 and died in March 1649 1.). The cause of his death was "dropsie and lethargie". Marriage Notes: "This Hugh Rose of Kilravock was maried to Margaret Sinclar, daughter to Sir John Sinclar of Dunbeath, Knight Barronet, and Christian Mowet, a daughter of the familie of Bulqhollie. The said Sir John Sinclar was a grandchild of the familie of the Earle of Caithnes, by a daughter of the familie of the Earle of Bothwell, Hepburne." |
