"Alexander Rose, born about 1653, fourth son of David R. of Earlsmill, Nairn, and brother of Hew R., min. of Nairn; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1673); schoolmaster of Inverness, 1673-80; pres. by George, Marquess of Huntly, and ord. (at Forres) 16th Sept. 1680; dep. 31st Oct. 1716 for reading the Earl of Mar's proclamation. He died before 1725. He marr. Anna, daugh. of James Gordon of Daach, Ruthven, and had issue Alexander; David, Episcopal min. at Lethnot [great-grandfather of Sir Hugh Henry Rose, Bart., Baron Strathnairn, eminent Indian soldier], died 4th Nov. 1758 ; James. [Family of Kilravock; Case of Greenshields.]"
