GALLIE OR GELLIE, Alexander Minister of Fordyce, Reverend Mr 1
General Notes: "ALEXANDER GALLIE, born Aberdeen about 1652; educated at King's College there ; M.A. (9th July 1672); adm. to Deskford 12th Sept. 1680; pres. by James, Earl of Findlater; trans, and adm. 4th Sept. 1684 ; died May 1715. He was the means of abolishing the public market long held in the churchyard on Sundays, tossing a bag of snuff, the last article offered for sale, out of the burying ground, but recompensing the vendor. He marr. (1) Anna, daugh. of James Gordon, min. of Rothiemay : (2) Jean Urquhart, and had issue James: John; Alexander; Patrick; Anna, who narrowly escaped death by the fall of a roof at a wedding at Kindraucht; Margaret (marr. William, son to John Leslie Alexander married Anna GORDON, daughter of Reverend Mr James GORDON Minister of Rothiemay parish and Margaret GORDON. (Anna GORDON was born about 1655.) Alexander next married Jean URQUHART. (Jean URQUHART was born about 1665.) |
