Research Notes:
BIRTH DATE
In House of Gordon Bulloch gives George Gordon's birth date as 14 November 1741. This is an error which may have arisen from the layour of the Fyvie parish register which lists the baptism dates of the Gordon of Gightly children. The date sits beside the end of the entry for George Gordon, but along with another entry with the same date applies to the female twins of the Laird of Gight, Elizabeth and Mary. George's baptism date is above his entry.
Secondly the index for the GRO website Scotland's People, at the time of writing (2014), lists two baptisms for George Gordon, son of the Laird of Gight. One date is for 15 October 1740, and the second for 15 October 1749. The latter is erroneous, and depends upon a misreading of the only date for George Gordon 15 October 1740, the final zero being mistaken for 9. This was confirmed by an email on behalf of Scotland's People on 13 August 2014.
This last error has now (2024) been corrected. 2 5 6

On Sept. 14, 1771, sasine was granted in favour of George Gordon of Gight on the lands of Minmore and others, in the parish of Inveravon, Banffshire, proceeding on a charter and disposition of the Duke of Gordon (Banff Sasines).
He revived the old alliance between the Gordons and the Inneses, by marrying Catherine Innes, the daughter of Alexander Innes of Rosieburn (1701-1761), who was Sheriff-Clerk of Banffshire, and Provost of Banff for five terms of office. This Alexander Innes had married Catherine Abercromby (1708-1784), second daughter of Alexander Abercromby of Glassaugh, M.P. for Banffshire (from 1706 to 1727; he died 1729). The graves of the Inneses and the Russells are in Banff church (Annals of Banff, ii., 358-9)." [....]
