CRICHTON, William 9th Lord Crichton of Sanquhar, then Earl of Dumfries 1
Another name for William was CRICHTON, William of Ryhill.1 User ID: H260. William married Euphemia SETON 'of Touch'.1 (Euphemia SETON 'of Touch' was born about 1580.) Marriage Notes: "William (Crichton), ninth Lord Crichton of Sanquhar, was, as already indicated (p. 227), the cousin of the eighth Lord. In 1598 he is described as the son and apparent heir of William, tutor of Sanquhar. He was also styled of Darnhunch or Darnhaunch, a place in Ayrshire, and of Town-head, and after January 1606 he is designed of Ryhill, which property he purchased, a fact which has led to his being erroneously stated to be a son of John Crichton of Ryhill, referred to on p. 225. In September 1612 he took steps to vindicate his claim to his late cousin's estates and title by warning the tenants not to pay rent, and he also on 6 November 1613 was served heir to the late Lord as his father's brother's son .... William next married Ursula BARNHAM before 16 June 1630.1 (Ursula BARNHAM was born about 1580, died on 28 May 1632 in Doncaster, England 1 and was buried in 1632 in Rotherham, England 1.) Marriage Notes: "William (Crichton) .... married, secondly, before 16 June 1630, Ursula Barnham, daughter of Stephen Barnham, relict of Sir Robert Swift of Rotherham. She predeceased her second husband, dying, without issue by him, at Doncaster 28 May 1632, and was buried at Rotherham" |
