JOHN ROSE of lnsch and Flinders (of the Kilravock family), son of Alexander R. of Insch, min. of Monymusk ; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1663) ; pres. Dec. 1666 ; adm. 13th March 1667; D.D. (1684); died 1st Feb. 1690. He marr. 1669, Isobel, daugh. of John Udny of that ilk, and had issue: Alexander of Lethenty, Bishop of Edinburgh (??) ; John ; a daugh. (marr. Alexander Rose, Bishop of Edinburgh, was the brother, not the son of John Rose.
"Rev. John Ross or Rose, son of Rev. Alexander Ross or Rose, minister of Monymusk, and a descendant of the Roses of Kilravock, was admitted (to Foveran parish) in March, 1667. He had the degree of D.D. conferred on him in 1684. He married Isobel, daughter of John Udny of Udny, and they had a family of at least two sons - Alexander, afterwards proprietor of Lethenty, and John - and a daughter, who married Rev. James Lorimer, minister of Kelso. In 1680, he succeeded his father in the patrimonial properties of Insch, Flinders, Boddom, etc. He died after 1st February, 1690."
