George Shand was named in the death certificate of William Shand in 1868 as the reputed father of William, who was noted as illegitimate. George was recorded as a farmer and as deceased in 1868. ¹

WILLIAM SHAND'S FATHER

It may be that George Sand was the father of William but there seems to be something not quite right in the names of his parents. George Shand is not very common as a name and there is a fair coincidence in George being also the first name of William's wife. Also the name of the first child, Margaret, appears not to reflect any parental name. More work needs done here.

George had a relationship with Jane REID. (Jane REID was born about 1795 and died after 2 February 1868 ¹.)
