  • Born: About 1541
  • Marriage (1): HARVEY, Isabella of Elrick 1

   User ID: A276.

  Research Notes:

CONRACK and variants

This name may be an anglicised version of the Gaelic A' Chàrnach meaning 'the stony place or the place of the cairns'. One such place, Carnoch, near Inverness, in the Badenoch & Strathspey district of Highland region exists in the present day maps.

If the linguistic phenomenon of methasesis has been at work over the centuries, where letter sounds and syllable are switched, this name may be linked to Calternach, west of Drummuir and north of Kininvie, near Mains of Newton.

If this is so, then is it possible that modern 'Rosarie' is 'Rudderie'? 2 3

William married Isabella HARVEY of Elrick.1 (Isabella HARVEY of Elrick was born about 1555.)

  Marriage Notes:

"William, of Conrack, who married Isabella Harvey of Elrick, and had issue"
