DUFF, John of Culbin 1User ID: C158. John married Helen GORDON, daughter of Sir James GORDON 4th of Park, 2nd Baronet, Jacobite 1715 and Helen FRASER.1 (Helen GORDON was born about 1717.) Marriage Notes: "The writer (of 'An Appeal to the Gratitude of Britons') evidently imagined that the Alexander Duff, midshipman and master's mate, who was among the killed was the captain's son. This Alexander, with his brother Thomas, afterwards Colonel Gordon of Park, were the sons of Lachlan Duff, W.S., youngest son of John Duff of Culbin and his second wife, Helen Gordon of Park. Thomas had joined the ship with Norwich just before the battle, and Alexander died in his arms." (page 267) |
